Bert Kammerer and Bobby Watts have launched their own website SmackTalkRC to give YOU the tips to help make you build and fly like a pro!

What appears to be a monthly video series for a small fee of $2.99 each download, they will cover flying tips, event coverage, interviews with friends and maybe even some goofing around!

Check out the site (there's a preview of what's to come) and follow them on Twitter for the latest updates. The first episode is set to launch on January 22, 2010 and will cover "Everything about Nitro Engines".

Ok so we have done 2 successful contests with Facebook so far, and have already given away $350.00 in prizes.

Now we would like for you to join us in a different type of contest. We are going to kick off the new year with our very own "Insane Crash Contest." Once again we will keep it simple, Best crash video wins.

We realize that video takes a bit more time so we will be holding this contest for 1 full month.

To submit your video you must subscribe to the ReadyHeli's YouTube page. you can do so by visiting www.youtube.com/readyheli once you are there click subscribe. We will be checking, so be sure you have done this.

To upload your crash video to You Tube visit www.youtube.com/channel/readyhelicrashcontest from this page click submit a video. Once it has been approved by the Ready Heli staff your video has been submitted. The title of your video must read "Ready Heli Insane Crash Contest" in order for it to be accepted.

Rules of the contest:

Any size or type of RC helicopter can be entered to win. The video of the best or worse crash wins.

Entry's must be uploaded to the Ready Heli You Tube Contest page no later then 11:59 pm Sunday, January 31st.

Kopp-Etchells Effect

Here is an interesting helicopter fact about the Kopp-Etchells Effect.

When helicopters pass through dust storms, contact of the particles with

the rotating blades produces either sparks or static electricity.

The phenomenon has been observed during combat operations in Afghanistan ;

Michael Yon has documented the effect, and has named it after two U.K.

soldiers who died there. "Kopp-Etchells"

When operating in sandy environments, sand hitting the moving rotor blades

erodes their surface. This can damage the rotors; the erosion also presents

serious and costly maintenance problems .

The abrasion strips on helicopter rotor blades are made of titanium, which

is very hard, but less hard than sand; so when a helicopter is flown near to

the ground in desert environments abrasion occurs, and at night there is a

visible corona or halo around the rotor blades, caused by the sand hitting

the titanium and causing it to spark and oxidize .

Orlando Helicopter Blowout!

Well, you could definitely say the Orlando Helicopter Blowout this weekend was a GREAT success! Over 200 registered pilots!

John and I were able to meet many of our loyal customers and say hello to friends new and old from Heli Wholesaler, Esprit Model, RRE Models, Bob & Becky, and the folks from Castle.

Mario Abrajim, Jan Matros and Kyle Dahl were there to represent Team Mikado. Kyle Dahl had an incredible flight where he did an inverted blade scrape auto, then flipped over to have his Logo slide up to have its photo taken to a local newsreported on the flight line. (I hope someone has this on video!)

On hand to represent Team Edge Rotor Blades was - JC Zankl, Frank Columbia, Kyle Stacy, Mike Fortin, Marcus Kim, Jan Matros, Mario Abrajim, Beresford Davis, Marshall Scalisi and the lovely Miss Suzi Cruse. They did an outstanding job letting fellow pilots test out the Edge Blades. The response to Edge Blades was a resounding “Hell yeah”- Those that tested the blades were able to keep them…ok, they did not want to give them back and who are we to argue with them? They are rapidly becoming a favorite blade to fly! Edge rotorblades even won the autorotation contest.

J.C. Zenkl from Team EDGE proved once again that auto-rotations can be very fun and addicting...and now we see why. He had the longest hang time than any other pilot using EDGE 693mm flybar blades. At one point he actually gained altitude during an auto-rotatation!

Special thanks to Bert Kammerer, Mike Fortin, Ernie Fritz, The Torch’s Group, RCACF club for an OUTSTANDING event- and to the Ready Heli staff and their families that gave their weekend to show their support.

I’ve added some photos to our Flickr account, I’ve got to hand it to the folks at RunRyder and RC Heliresource. Taking pictures of a helicopters is like trying to catch a fly with chopsticks and yet they make it look so easy! The pilots during the noon demo really knew how to keep their helis out of my photos so I am sorry for the limited “flight shots”. I am sure Jocelyn Ryder will fully have that covered anyway!

The ReadyHeli.com Hottest Canopy Contest was a big hit. So much so that we are being asked to do it all again. So here it is... but this time there's a twist. Since everyone had a chance to share how great their helicopters looked, we decided to ask for you to share with us the exact opposite.

Let's see what you have been to embarrassed to take out of the closet all these years. Show everyone your most horrendous, funny, creative, slapped together mess that you have.
